VISA and MASTERCARD created the norm 3D Secure to protect you against fraudulent use of your debit card when you buy online.
So, when you pay on a website where the logo « Verified by Visa » and « Mastercard Securecode » appears, you enter your bank details normally.
You will then be directed to your bank’s website where you will need to authenticate yourself to validate the payment.
Your bank is checking whether or not you are the real owner of the debit card.
According to your bank, this code can differ : it can be your date of birth, your maiden name or a code send to you by text.
